Meet Photographer Christin Healey

To start things off, can you tell everyone a little about yourself?

I'm a landscape and Adventure Photographer based in Charlottesville, VA & Boulder, CO. I have a wonderful, supportive husband, two labs, and one orange tabby cat. I grew up in the Florida Keys, raised by a Mom who loved nature and adventure as much as I do.

When did you start getting into photography? Do you have any formal training or are you self-taught?

I started getting into photography in high school. I took a class and I was hooked. It was a film photography class and I developed all of my own prints back then. Aside from that year in 10th grade on the grandpa's old camera, I’m self-taught.

What are you looking for when capturing your shots, and what do you hope to portray or inspire with your photos?

In my images, I'm hoping to portray the feeling that I had when I was in that moment. Whether it's calm, exhilarating, tiring, or just breathtakingly beautiful. I hope to inspire people not only to get outside, but also to respect and appreciate nature and this one precious planet.

Are there a few key pieces of gear you take with you on an adventure?

My tripod, remote shutter release, Lee Filters, and my Patagonia nano jacket is my go-to for years now. And coffee, lots of coffee.

What’s your favourite adventure tip/trick for us ladies?

Oh gosh, great question. Hmmm, I would say just be confident. Know that you can slay anything that comes your way, and you can do it all by yourself if need be. Be knowledgeable and safe of course, but fear is your enemy - don't let it stop you from anything.

Out of all the places you’ve been, if you could pinpoint one adventure as your favourite or place to photograph, which would it be?

I just went to Norway this past summer and it was incredible. So many wild, wide-open places with epic views, and didn't see another person on the entire 7-day trip aside from those in our group

What has been the most valuable advice you have received to improve your photography skills? Who was it by?

I think a lot of really great photographers will say this, but the best piece of advice I have heard is that it isn't about your camera or gear, but about your drive and willingness to learn. You can take the most expensive camera out there, but if you have bad light and bad composition, it doesn't matter. Very few people are willing to hike for hours in the dark and cold to get the shot - be one of those people.

When you’re not  taking photos  or adventuring around the world, what do you like to do?

I love spending time with my little family, cooking (and eating!), reading, lifting weights, a good concert, and I never met a decent wine that I didn't like.

You can go anywhere in the world right now. Where do you choose and why?

The Fann Mountains in Tajikistan. I haven't seen very many images from here, and it looks really incredible. Far-flung, not touristy spots are my favorite.

What’s your next adventure and when do you head out?

Mexico to photograph whale sharks in the Baja Peninsula.

Thanks for your time! Before we let you go, what other social platforms are you active on besides Instagram? I’m sure our readers would love to know where else they can connect with you on the web.

No, I'm so bad about that. Instagram is my go-to, and my personal Facebook.
