Whether you are a mother looking for an adventure to bond with your daughter or a daughter wanting to spend time with your Mum, here is the perfect weekend escape to make a memory only you two will share.
Your Women Want Adventure weekend canoeing and camping encapsulates the beauty of one of the best overnight paddle destinations in Australia, just 2.5 hours south of Sydney and only accessible by canoe.
The trip involves packing gear into double canoes and making our way up river to camp. Spend the afternoon swimming, relaxing by the fire, reading a book or talking to one another yes, Talking!!
No phone reception in the wild.
Just toasting marshmallows and real (mother daughter connection).
Your qualified Women Want Adventure Guide will ensure a safe, fun filled adventure. Helping instruct you in the canoes, preparing meals, and supporting you all the way.
Of course, aunties and sisters welcome! It does not have to be a Mother and daughter combination, it could be a Nanna and granddaughter or an aunty and niece etc.
Mother and daughter combinations might be a mother in her 60 s and a daughter in her 30 s.
What is the age range? We expect to have girls 15 years and older to mothers in their late 60 s. There will be a mix of ages on this special trip.
Why is the age range over 15 years? This trip requires strength to paddle. From previous experience, our guides have recommended this age for a safe paddle for all.
If you're both over the age of 18 years, we have another departure date for our normal trip here.
WHAT TO BRING:
On arrival at the Base House in Kangaroo Valley you will be met by your guide and provided with waterproof barrels/dry bags for your gear. After a quick sorting of equipment, you will be transferred 20 minutes via shuttle to the start of the paddle location. Your car will be left in a safe and secure location.
We begin the day with a skills and safety briefing, before jumping in the canoes to paddle up river, passing abundant landscapes. We stop for a delicious morning tea on the banks before canning around river bends for 2 hours. As you paddle, the landscape narrows in and the gorge towers above. It feels like you re miles from anywhere any you are!
We take it slow before reaching camp by the sandy banks at the river edge. Go for a swim, sit by the fire and relax!
Meals: Large hearty and healthy morning tea, afternoon tea at camp, dinner, dessert + all tea and coffee
After breakfast and perhaps a morning swim, we make our way back down the imposing gorge, beneath craggy caves and overhangs where we will see varied birdlife and regrowth after the recent bushfires. We may also hear the shrill sounds of the eagles that live in the caves above.
We enjoy the opportunity to have a delicious morning tea to celebrate our river adventure before meeting the shuttle at 1.00pm for the return back to Kangaroo Valley. Expect to be back at your car between 1.30-2pm on Sunday.
Meals: Breakfast, large hearth morning tea + snacks and fruit, tea and coffee
WHAT TO WEAR?
Wear what you feel most comfortable in. Tights or shorts. Quick dry pants are usually best with a long sleeve top to protect yourself from the sun. Wearing a t-shirt underneath is a good idea in case you get hot when paddling. On your feet you can wear water sandals or sand shoes to keep your feet warm. They will get a little wet. Thongs are not as suitable for around camp and they are easier to trip in or stab your toes.
HOW TO DO I NEED TO BE?
If you feel comfortable to exercise, gently for 3 hours, this trip is suitable for you. On some trips, the wind can pick up, which will require you to dig deep and paddle! We suggest you feel comfortable to move your body and sit down on a canoe seat for periods between 1-2 hours. We paddle at a leisurely pace.
Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
We can't wait to meet all the Mothers and daughters on this special Women Want Adventure trip.
What if it s raining? Women Want Adventure trips still go ahead in all types of weather, unless electric storms. If the wind is high we may change the location of the paddle section on the river to better suit the conditions. We will inform you via email of any changes.
My daughter is 10 years old, can she still come? Sorry, we have decided it is best for this trip for 15 years and older. All adults accompanying a child must sign a waiver form.
What if I want my two daughters to attend? How will we fit in the canoe? Depending on the age of your daughter, we have the option to put you or your other daughter in a single kayak. There is an additional $80 charge for this hire. You must email us upon booking so we can organise this for you.
How many people can fit in the tents if we hire them? The tents are two women tents. You may need to hire two tents for $15 each. Please indicate when booking.
