Itinerary

Upon arrival at the meeting location, you will be greeted by your guide and fellow women paddlers.

Your guide will provide you with a large, waterproof barrel and dry bag for your items. We spend a few moments re-shuffling gear, before jumping on the bus for a 15 minute transport to our launch location at Tallowa Dam. There are bathrooms at the meeting location and launch location.

*Keys can be kept safely at the Base House, along with your car.

We’ll then play “this goes there” (our version of pack it in!) loading gear into canoes. Your guide will take you through a basic skills paddle briefing and a safety overview before heading out onto the water. The pace is slow and you’ll be in a double canoe, so let your buddy do the paddling!

Along the way we stop for a hot cuppa and morning tea, before making our way further into the gorge.

It takes between 3-3.5 hours to reach camp, where we will unpack and have lunch.

The afternoon is a great time to swim, relax, read a book or marvel over the towering sandstone cliffs surrounding you. Your guide will prepare afternoon tea and a healthy dinner. Feel free to bring your best jokes for the campfire!

During this paddle, there may be sections of wind. You may need to paddle harder in some sections, or float along in others. It may be necessary to be comfortable to work a little harder if required on this moderate trip. Your group guide will advise any changes due to weather and ensure the group is comfortable.

No need to set an alarm, local birdlife begin singing early. Today, relax and enjoy a coffee/tea by the river.

After breakfast, we’ll make our way back towards Tallowa Dam, stopping for a bite to eat and complain we should have stayed for two nights!

We’ll drop you back at your car between 1.30-2pm. Please allow a window of an hour/two incase there is a change in weather and we paddle slower (or faster).

Grading

Grading: Moderate

Our moderate level trips will see you spending more time outdoors and moving that body of yours. From steep inclines on a hike to longer stretches of paddling, you can expect to be on your trip for a minimum of 5-8 hours. A good level of health and fitness is required, and you should be comfortable swimming, hiking, camping and abseiling. Previous bushwalking, kayaking or camping experience is recommended, but not required. You may also be required to carry a pack or equipment (a good workout) and hike up and down steps and hills. Be prepared to challenge yourself and get that heart rate up!

Fitness and Preparation  Physical exercise should not be new to you. We recommend participating in aerobic activity 2-3 times per week and incorporate some hills and stair climbs.

Should have stayed two nights!!!

Unreal. Just got back from camping up the Shoalhaven Gorge and I LOVED it!!! The food was incredible and thank you so much to Mon for making extra special with the spring rolls! We all were saying "wish it was two nights". Didn't want to come home. Thanks again!
