Women Want Adventure is commencing our free Meet Up Hikes in Canberra to connect the women s community, and what better trail to start on Mulligan s Flat Circuit.
Winter in Canberra makes for perfect hiking weather, so we re going to make the most of the cooler days and take a wander along the North Mulligan s Circuit in Mulligan s Flat. This 5.5km circuit provides sweeping views of Gungahlin and New South Wales and incorporates part of Canberra s centenary trail. Kangaroo Grass dominates the lower slopes while the steeper slopes support Red Stringybark Forest. Most of the treeless areas now in Mulligans Flat and Goorooyarroo Nature Reserves were created by the early farmers who cleared woodland areas forming secondary grassland communities. The grasslands contain native tussock grasses interspersed with showy wildflowers (although maybe not at this time of the year). Our walk will be on well-formed tracks, with a couple of steep sections along the way to get the heart pumping.
The pace for all our Meet Up hikes is SLOW. This hike is suitable for women looking to get outside, meet other like-minded women who enjoy hiking and have fun. We set the walking pace so you feel comfortable and can take your time to soak in a morning on the trails.
WHAT TO BRING:
ABOUT YOUR MEET UP HOST: Robyn Hall
Robyn, a Canberra-based scientist and veterinarian, is part of the 2019 cohort of the global leadership, strategy, and science initiative, Homeward Bound. The year-long program aims to heighten the influence and impact of women with a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) background in order to influence policy and decision making as it shapes our planet. The program, comprising 80 women with a STEM background from across the globe, culminates in a three-week voyage to Antarctica in January 2019. You can support Robyn s Homeward Bound journey at www.chuffed.org/project/robyn-is-homeward-bound.
We hope you can make it! There will be regular Meet Ups for the community to follow.
