ABOUT:
The Mount Mitchell Summit Walk brings you some of the best views and trail-walking on the Illawarra coastline. This extended version of the Wodi Wodi track leads you to the top of Mount Mitchell, overlooking Stanwell Park beach and the Pacific Ocean. After starting our walk at Stanwell Park station, we come down to Stanwell Creek for our first rest stop. Then begins the ascent through the Cabbage Tree palms, Gymea lillies and eucalypts... the stairs are a good challenge on your fitness levels, however the stunning views are well worth the climb! Once we reach the top of the escarpment, we will meander along the trail (with numerous photo opportunities) before to a large rock platform, aka our morning tea destination!
The track is a round trip being roughly a 4hr walk including breaks, a 6km return trip. A lot of this trail is predominantly made of steps, both natural and man-made. You must be comfortable walking up stairs for a prolonged period of time, and any knee issues will affect your comfort levels on the descent. The track is steep with scrambling in some sections, and slippery rocks across Stanwell Creek. Good walking shoes are a must.
HOW TO GET TO THE MEETING LOCATION:
Coming off Lawrence Hargrave Drive, turn onto Railway Crescent. We will meet outside Stanwell Park train station at the top of Railway Crescent. If in doubt, type Stanwell Park Station into Google Maps.
There is plenty of parking here; another option is to catch the train!
