Itinerary

Pretty Beach Camping

After meeting your guides at Pretty Beach Campground at 3 pm, you will have the opportunity to settle into your surroundings and unpack your belongings into your tent. The team will have these set up for your arrival. Once everyone has arrived, we'll gather for a group briefing, likely by the beach owing to its stunning location. We then embark on a short afternoon walk along the Snapper Point Walking Track, where your guides will discuss the upcoming days of hiking and camping. Here, you'll be treated to breathtaking views stretching far south along the incredible coastline. Enjoy afternoon tea and nibbles as the sun sets.

In the evening, relax around your first campfire of the trip, mingling with the other women.

Night one at camp

  • Accommodation: Campground at Pretty Beach (please ensure you go to the correct campground)
  • Walk: 1 km return, 40 minutes (easy)
  • Meals: Afternoon tea, nibbles, and dinner

Rock Walking South

Today, wake up to fresh coffee and breakfast at camp (you may even want a quick dip in the ocean prior!). After packing up your tent, we will place our overnight items in the transport vehicle, which you don't need for the day, and carry only day packs for our hike from Pretty Beach to Pebbly Beach.

As we set off, we will head south towards Depot Beach, traversing a captivating blend of sandy shores, sturdy boardwalks, scenic trails, and breathtaking coastline. Along the way, prepare to immerse yourself in stunning secluded bays, where we will break for a delightful morning tea, all while taking in the views and possibly spotting a few whales as they journey up the coast.

Continuing our hike, we will head south to Pebby Beach for lunch, and perhaps a swim! After lunch, your guides will assist in setting up your tents. Take this time to unwind and rejuvenate, whether by simply relaxing in the serene ambiance of the campsite, taking a leisurely stroll along the beach, or enjoying a refreshing swim in the company of grazing kangaroos.

Setting up camp at Pebbly

  • Accommodation: Camping at Pretty Beach
  • Hiking Distance: 8 km
  • Meals: Breakast, Monring tea, Lunch, Dinner

Today we begin with an ocean dip (if you choose and the weather permits) while sipping on a coffee and watching the sunrise at the beach.

After a nourishing hot breakfast, we pack up camp and catch a bus from Pebbly to South Durras. This ensures we can get past Durras Lake, which is often open and dangerous to cross. From South Durras, we walk on what is considered (in our opinion, too) one of the most beautiful sections of the whole trail. We will be navigating over ocean rocks and traversing uneven terrain with large pebbles and slippery rock platforms.

If the weather is nice, we can stop for a dip at morning tea, taking our time on this stunning section through beautiful spotted gum forests, with the ocean's expanse as our backdrop. The spotted gums create a scenic corridor, guiding us towards South Durras.

Post-lunch on the trail, our path to Oaky Beach Campground winds along cliffs and dips into secluded beaches. Today's effort is rewarded with an overnight stay at Oaky Beach, a secluded campground accessible only by 4WD, nestled away from urban distractions. No showers here!

Campsite

Surrounded by towering gums that offer natural shelter, the campsite is a stone's throw from the beach, perfect for a refreshing swim. With only pit toilets and no showers, this rustic setting enhances the sense of exclusivity, making the day's journey worthwhile. It transforms into our private gum forest retreat. Our team will transport water and essentials, preparing a hearty dinner around the campfire.

  • Accommodation: Camping at Oaky Beach Campground
  • Hiking Distance: 10-11 km, 5-6 hours hiking (time depends on stops and group pace)
  • Meals: Breakfast, Morning Tea, Lunch, Dinner

Breakfast at Okay Beacjh

Starting with breakfast and perhaps a refreshing dip to invigorate ourselves, we'll pack up our tents and head south to North Head Lookout, offering spectacular views over Honeysuckle Bay.

We'll continue towards Yellow Rock and ascend to the headland near North Head Campsite for morning tea and a hot cuppa. This spot is excellent for whale watching.

After our break, we head down the headland and take some steps closer towards Maloneys Beach and the grassy foreshore. We will have lunch here and a final dip in the ocean to cool off.

It's here that our journey comes to an end. We'll wait for a private bus to collect the group and take us back to Pretty Beach, where cars will be parked. Expect to return to Pretty Beach and onwards to your home destination by about 2.00 pm.

  • Hiking Distance: 8 km, 3.5-4 hrs

Grading

Grading: Moderate

This trip is graded as moderate. The hiking days are manageable in length, but we will be walking on a variety of different surfaces, including some rock scrambling along the coastline, across uneven pebbles, dirt single tracks, and up and down hills. The trip is also designed for outdoor camping, providing an authentic experience in nature. It’s perfect for women who are eager to escape to the outdoors, enjoy jumping into the ocean for a shower (though there is a cold shower at Pebbly Beach available). The trip is suitable for women who are regular walkers, in good health, and have good mobility. If you’re a regular walker and stay active at home at least 3-4 days per week, this trip would be a good fit for you. This journey also requires carrying a day pack, as we will transport your additional (small) overnight bag to the next camping location.

FAQ

85% women turn up individually, typically in their 30 s to late 60 s. Most women turn up individually to our trips to connect with others and make friends with like-minded women who enjoy getting outdoors and going hiking/camping. Almost all who attend usually don't know each other. Feeling a little nervous about this is very normal.

We cater to vegetarian and gluten-free diets on the Murramarang Trip. If you have a specific dietary need, such as celiac or a nut allergy, please contact us prior to booking. Please note that we are unable to cater to FODMAP or no onion/garlic requirements at this time. We also provide lactose-free milk and dairy-free yogurt/milk alternatives. Thank you for understanding!

Of course, you’re welcome to bring your own tent! To ensure we have enough space for everyone, we ask that your tent be no larger than a 2-person size. Since we have very limited room for gear transport between campsites, please check with us beforehand if you plan to bring your tent.

We provide single tents for everyone, but if you'd like to share a tent with a friend, just let us know on your booking form.

At Pretty Beach Campground, you'll find flushing toilets and hot showers available. Pebbly Beach also has flushing toilets and one cold shower (plus the ocean!). Oaky Beach, on the other hand, is equipped with pit toilets and no showers. You do not need to bring paper.

We will organise a parking location where daily parking fees are waived. We will provide all necessary instructions upon your arrival and your guides will show you where to park. As you come into Pretty Beach Campground, our sites are the first on your right. You will see us and we will wave you over to your camp spot.

Thank you so much for creating the Women Want Adventure community, which brings together like minded women in an inclusive way.
The Murramarang South Coast walk was fabulous – expertly organised: the food, the walks, the gear… and did I mention the food? The food is amazing and tailored to accommodate dietary requirements. You create a wonderful environment for women to have an absolute blast in the outdoors. I vote for staying at Oaky Campground longer!
