Short on time but still want to get out for the weekend? The Six Foot Track day hike will help you get your nature fix.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS:

The Six Foot Track is usually a 3 day overnight 44km hiking challenging. We ll do that another time!

On this day trip, we have chosen to walk the scenic section from Megalong Valley Road to the Cox River (Swing Bridge) and return. A 12km hike winding through heritage sites, heath, streams and woodlands.

We ll stop plenty of times along the way and enjoy a rest break at the river for a morning tea/brunch.

DETAILS

  • Meeting location: Megalong Valley Tea Rooms. There is reception and bathrooms at this location
  • Meeting time: 8.30am at Megalong Valley Tea Rooms. We then drive 10 minutes down the road to the start of the trail
  • Finish Time: Between 1.30-2.00pm
  • Distance: 12km return
  • Grade: Easy to Moderate - there are well maintained steps and small hills. It is suitable for beginners and the pace is slow

HOW FIT DO YOU NEED TO BE?

A basic/good level of fitness is required for this hike, meaning feeling comfortable on your feet is a good idea. We take regular breaks, stop often for photos and rests and support each other. We suggest bringing your hiking poles for extra support if you have unsteady knees or mobility.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Day pack (large enough to carry 2L water, rain jacket, personal belongings)
  • Rain jacket
  • Sunscreen
  • 2 L of water
  • Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots
  • Sunglasses and hat
  • Camera or phone for photos
  • Personal medication
  • Cup for coffee/tea (we have spares, due to Covid we think this is more hygienic)
  • Hiking poles (optional)
  • Warm clothing such as beanies/gloves

WHAT TO WEAR

  • Comfortable walking tights or walking shorts
  • T-shirt with a jumper to take on/off if cold
  • A rain jacket if it's looking like a sprinkle
  • Worn in joggers, walking shoes or boots with good socks

HOW TO GET TO THE MEETING LOCATION:

If driving from Sydney please allow roughly 3 hours to reach Blackheath and drive down into the Megalong Valley. If you arrive earlier you can relax at the Tea Rooms while waiting for the group. Click on this link to view the meeting location.
