Itinerary

Crossing Cox Bridge

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in the serene beauty of nature on the first day of this two-day women's overnight hike to Cox River. Get ready to cross the exciting Swing Bridge and take a refreshing dip in the river.

Meet your friendly guide at Megalong Valley Tea Rooms, where you'll receive a warm welcome and an informative briefing. Gear and food will be distributed here, and you'll get a chance to learn how to pack your backpack efficiently. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask - we're here to help!

After the briefing, we'll take a short 10-minute drive to our starting point. Megalong Valley Tea Rooms is an excellent meeting place as it provides ample space for sorting out gear, grabbing a coffee, and using the bathroom facilities.

The Six Foot Track is a challenging 3-day trek from Katoomba to Jenolan Caves, but we've picked the most picturesque section from Megalong Valley Road to the Cox River (Swing Bridge) and back. Keep in mind that the bridge may bounce slightly, so if you're uncomfortable walking across a moving bridge, this trip might not be for you. But trust us, it's really fun!

During the hike, you'll cross lush farmland with grazing cows before descending into the valley towards Cox River, where you'll spend a leisurely afternoon at the campsite.

On the second day of our Women's Six Foot Track Overnight Hike, you'll wake up to the enticing aroma of freshly brewed coffee right outside your tent. Take your time getting out of bed and relish the tranquil morning atmosphere, surrounded by the stunning Blue Mountains scenery.

After a leisurely breakfast and packing up your gear, we'll embark on our return hike back to Megalong Valley Road where our cars are parked. Along the way, we'll take in the breathtaking views of the majestic mountains and lush forests, stopping to rest and admire the scenery whenever needed.

If you have extra time, we'll make a pit stop at the Megalong Valley Tea Rooms, and treat you to their signature scones, which are sure to tantalize your taste buds.

Our hike will conclude between 1-1.30pm, leaving you with a sense of accomplishment and unforgettable memories of this empowering adventure.

Grading

Grading: Moderate

While you don't need previous overnight hiking experience, you'll need to be healthy and in reasonable shape. Our goal is to get comfortable carrying a load on our backs, take regular breaks, and support each other. You'll be hiking between 5-6 hours on moderately graded overnight hikes. For extra support, bring your walking poles. We'd love to help. Getting ready for this trip requires regular aerobic exercise 3-4 times a week. Taking those steps while carrying a pack is great for training!

If you're not sure about your fitness level, please contact our team.

FAQ

If you enjoy moving your body and getting outdoors - you’ll love this trip. You will need at least a good base level of fitness and mobility. The trip involves hiking up steps and hills, while carrying and overnight pack about 15-17kg.

We're happy to accommodate vegetarian diets and gluten free and can also assist with food intolerances, provided we are advised in advance. Please let us know about your dietary requirements at the time of booking or 2 weeks prior to your trip, so we can make arrangements accordingly. However, we regret to inform you that we're unable to cater for FODMAP diets on our overnight hikes. We apologise for any inconvenience and encourage you to get in touch with us for further assistance.

Almost everyone! Welcome to the community. Most women turn up individually to our trips to connect with others and make friends with like-minded women who enjoy getting outdoors.

The group will share carrying group meal items and sometimes some cooking equipment. Usually cooking equipment is carried by our guides. We will help you arrange your pack and you do not need to worry about allowing for additional space as we will go over the packing process at the pre-trip briefing.

Between 15-17kg. This also depends on the size of the group and how we share some food and camp items. We try and keep our packs as light as possible.

Great trip! Thank you Team WWA!!!

I went on the 6 foot track overnight hike (Blue Mountains) with Women Want Adventure and it was brilliant! Booking the trip was easy, and the organisation upon arrival and throughout the weekend was excellent. Our guide Molly was very helpful, and full of insights and information that we could learn and apply for future hiking trips. This trip in particular has a strong focus on preparing you for your own overnight hike. I left the weekend feeling confident that I could plan and undertake a multiple night hiking trip with friends/family. And the icing on the cake was spending two enjoyable days with a great bunch of women in a beautiful part of the world. I highly recommend Women Want Adventure and will be re-booking for another trip.

2nd Trip with WWA and my first overnight hike!

A very well-ran trip; the walking is not too hard but enough hills to test out what it's like to hike with a pack. Our guide Rach was amazing! As a local the the Blue Mountains she shared many facts but most of all I loved her fun approach. This is my second trip with WWA but my first overnight hike and now I'm keen for my next one! Maybe Tassie! Thank you Rach and team.
