Our aim at Women Want Adventure is to help empower, inspire and connect women through outdoor adventure. Part of this process is helping women up-skill and build confidence when they set out on adventure. Having your Wilderness First Aid Certificate is a fabulous way to learn vital survival skills for any adventure.
We have spoken to many women throughout the year that are interested in this course, so have teamed up with an ATO certified training company to deliver this special 5 day women s wilderness First Aid Course.
Description
The Women s Wilderness First Aid course is an ATO certified course for those who work or wish to get involved in the outdoor industry. It is also for women who are looking to do extended trips and expeditions. Knowing your Wilderness First Aid is a huge benefit for anyone, especially ladies in our community.
Length of Course
5 days practical and assessment + Pre course theory work
Date: 15th Feb - 19th Feb (5 full days)
Accreditation
The following Skill Set has been identified through consultation with the Outdoor Council of Australia (OCA), the peak body for the Outdoor Recreation industry and will be utilised as the basis for the registration requirements of programs like the National Outdoor Leader Registration Scheme (NOLRS). This course is also known as Remote Area First Aid which course satisfies the Code of Practice First Aid in the Workplace and NSW Adventure Activity Standards.
Eligibility/Entry Requirements: There are no stated prerequisites for this course
You are required to:
Complete the online training prior to commencement of the course. (We will send you all the details needed)
Print your theory certificate and
Attend all days practical & assessment
Price: $690 5 days

Associated course costs: Due to the practical nature of the course, participants are advised to wear clothing appropriate for outdoor activities.
Course location: Blue Mountains NSW - The Grange in Mount Victoria.

Accomodation: When booking via email with Monique, she will send you a link option with the group for accomoation in the Blue Mountains. There is a share house that sleeps up to 8 which is $500 for 4 nights for 3 people and $35 extra per person. This is a really good option to all stay together and is cheaper. Monique will connect everyone attending so they can orgnaise this option if they prefer.
You will be required to bring the following items:
Day pack
Closed cell or inflatable sleeping mat
Appropriate outdoor style of clothing
Sunscreen and hat
Its self catered so food and drink
What will you learn?
Wilderness First Aid Management of a range of illness and injuries which includes:
Steps of Accident Management
Pulse Oximetry
Treating Trauma related injuries
Traction Splinting
Reduction of Dislocations
New Head Injury Assessment
Anaphylaxis
Asthma
Cardiac arrest
External haemorrhage
Fractures, sprains, strains
Unconscious casualty
Performing CPR
Using a AED
Snake, spider bites
Burns
Choking
Diabetes
Heat & Cold related illness
Assessment
Assessment for this course requires successful completion of:
Pre course material prior to course commencement
A written theory test
Ongoing practical first aid responses.
(note you will be required to perform 4 minutes of CPR on a manikin placed on the floor)
What to wear: Please wear comfortable clothing to the workshop as some of the practical skills require you to kneel and lay down on the floor.
For the practical assessment you will role play with another student as your casualty

The skills gained in this course may be used in an application to work for Women Want Adventure as one of our trip leaders. Other areas of work include outdoor guiding, tourism, mining exploration and outdoor recreation teaching.
