Hartley Creek Falls - Cairns Free Women's Meet Up Hike Sunday 30th July

Welcome to the enticing Hartley Creek Falls hike, a notable adventure nestled near Wangetti, Queensland. As a free 'Women Want Adventure' meet-up, it's an open invitation for those who are not only passionate about nature but also enthusiastic about forming bonds and sharing experiences.

Embarking on this moderately challenging 7km out and back trail, you'll experience an array of captivating sights, textures, and sounds. The hike itself can take a little over two hours to complete, but every moment promises a blend of serenity and exhilaration. The path weaves through an enchanting forest of open dry woodland, flourishing with grass trees, cycads, and melaleucas that fringe the creek. The trail is mostly gravel, featuring some thrilling rock hopping sections on the way to the falls.

Do pack your swimmers and a towel, as you'll be tempted by the refreshing invitation of Hartley Creek falls for a mid-hike dip. This refreshing oasis is situated at about the 3.5km point, offering a perfect break before retracing your steps back to the carpark.

There will be some hill climbing involved; these stretches are a test of mettle, but are more than worth the effort. The higher ground awards the persistent hiker with tantalising glimpses of the Coral Sea shimmering in the distance, a view that is sure to take your breath away.

At just over the halfway point, you'll find yourself at Flat Rock, a vast opening featuring a few enticing swimming holes and intriguing rock formations. A place to relax, take in the surroundings, and perhaps share a few stories with your fellow hikers before continuing on your journey.

This is a moderate grade hike, so a certain level of base fitness will make your adventure more enjoyable. Good mobility will also assist you.

This hike is run by our delightful Cairns Volunteer, Kylie. She will be present on the day of the adventure to warmly welcome you.
