Hi, Adventurer My Account

Women's Budawangs 2-Night Hike // 5th - 7th May 2023

Our Larger Trips

Summary

This 2-night hike is sure to captivate the adventurer within and offers the opportunity to explore deep into the Budawangs Ranges, travelling across ridge lines, through cool forrest gorges and caves. It’s one of the most captivating and untouched national parks in the region and beaming with new life post 2019 fires.

We begin at our meeting location at Wog Wog Campground where your guide will help prepare your gear and allocate group items. We’re here to help you learn and develop new skills, so don’t worry if you’re feeling unsure.

Our journey takes us from Wog Wog via peaks and arches, into a tucked away camp location deep in the Budawangs wilderness. Of course our trip does not end there. We’ll be setting up a 2-night base camp and setting off the following day to Monolith Valley, home to a stunning array of granite rock formations that are one of the most unforgettable views on the whole south coast of NSW.

Of course no trip to the Budawangs is complete without delicious meals. We’ll be stopping along the way for rest breaks and enjoying time at camp to take in the surrounds. The pace of walking will be steady and there are small sections of rock scrambling. It’s a good idea you’re someone who is comfortable to carry supplies on your back while walking up to 7.5hrs each day. Good mobility and fitness is a must.

Itinerary

We’ll start the day meeting at Wog Wog Campground. After getting to know your fellow hikers and a trip briefing to go over gear and allocate items, you’ll head off, meandering through open forest, then onto an old 4WD track before entering a single foot track.

After an hour you’ll start to reach conglomerate outcrops in the bush. There is a large one on the right hand side of the track called Tinderry Lookout, and can easily be climbed, with extensive views to the west. You will be be amazed by the re-growth post fires and in awe of the resilience of the bush in this section.

From here, we head further into the Budawangs, rewarded with views of the south coast as we begin to reach Corang Arch where we will stop for lunch. Corang Arch is an incredible rock formation. You won’t believe it’s structure until you see it in person!

After lunch, we continue north, scrambling down rocks to reach the base of the valley. Huge rock formations tower above us as we begin are hike further into the valley to find camp.

Once at camp, the group will set up base camp and enjoy afternoon tea and a warm cuppa. Your guide will prepare a delicious meal as you watch the sun set over the bushland and towering caves.

Walking distance: 13km

From our Base Camp set up, we leave our tents set up and continue north on the trail with magnificent, towering caves either side. As we approach higher ground toward Mt Cole, we may catch sight of The Castle in the distance and the beginning of the formations of the Monolith Valley. Today’s highlight is reaching the Monoilith Valley and exploring the cool forested gorges.

There is a small section of rock scrambling required today (with only day packs), and we’ll take it steady. We’ll stop along the way and for a delicious picnic lunch and walk around the incredible rock formations. From Monolith Valley, we’ll make our way back to our tents for a cuppa and dinner.

Walking distance: 12km

This morning we enjoy a hearty camp breakfast before packing up our gear and returning on the trail toward Wog Wog Campground. Today we will spend time exploring Corang Arch and the peak for expansive views over Morton National Park and the Budawangs. We will stop for rest breaks on the return journey and be back at our cars between 2-3pm.

Congratulations on all you have achieved over the last few days!

Grading

Grading: Challenging

This trip is a moderate to challenging hike and suitable for women with a good level of fitness who walk often and comfortable carrying overnight items. This means women should feel confident to be on their feet hiking between 6-8 hours and be comfortable with long days hiking. We advise this should not be your first multi-day hike experience with us, however if it is your first and you're fit and ready for the adventure, more than okay!

The trip is graded challenging due to uneven terrain, steep gullies descents and small sections of rock scrambling. It’s  important women understand that a good level of fitness if required to successfully complete this walk. Please note, parts of the track may be wet underfoot.

Budawangs Testimonial

I know this is TOTALLY bias. Jumping into a testimonial from a guides perspective. Too bad, here is what I have to say. We have been waiting (a long time) for the fires, floods and Covid-19 to settle to announce these trips. It feels like you go back in time in the Budawangs. It is rich with cultural, geological and natural history, it is no wonder it is declared a wilderness area. It is safe to say I have hiked (a lot), and the Budawangs would have to be up there with the most incredible hiking I have ever done. You will get what I mean when you experience this special land on Yuin country. I encourage women who have been waiting for these hikes to jump in an give themselves a chance to discover not only something new, but push themselves into a place they would have never ventured alone. Honestly? Just do it!!!! PS - I give it 6 stars. Not kidding.
