Women's Glacier Rock Meet Up Hike, Cairns 6th July

Welcome to our Glacier Rock Meet-Up Hike! We're thrilled to invite you to join our community of outdoor women, especially women seeking friendship, adventure, and the beauty of nature. This hike promises an exhilarating journey through the stunning landscapes of Cairns while providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all participants.

About this hike:

We kick off our adventure at the Stoney Creek Carpark, just across the bridge, embarking on the Douglas Track. As we traverse through the lush rainforest, be prepared for some challenging inclines, leading us into open woodland switchbacks before immersing us once again in the enchanting rainforest.

Our ultimate destination is the majestic "rock," where you'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the mountains and the vast expanse of the ocean. On clear days, you might even catch a glimpse of Green Island. While the rainforest can be home to some tenacious mosquitoes, fear not we recommend bringing along a sun hat, plenty of water, and some snacks to keep you energized. If time allows, you can cool off with a swim at Stoney Creek or simply soak your feet. This hike is a true Cairns gem, offering a diverse range of landscapes, from rainforests to creeks and picturesque viewpoints. To make the most of your experience, consider starting early or going late to avoid the heat during the challenging ascent.

This also offers the opportunity to witness a mesmerizing sunset or sunrise from the summit. The route is a well-signposted rainforest trail, characterized by the lush vegetation of Barron Gorge National Park. These trails hold historical significance, as they were originally formed by the Djabugandji Bama traditional owners, who established connections between the coast and the highlands through this network of trails.

• Snack (or a light lunch as this one is a bit of a longer hike)
