Behold and explore the majestic vistas of the Grampians National Park on our women’s overnight hiking adventure.
Climbing steep mountains, dips into deep valleys and meanders through stunning bushland. Just the right amount of time in nature to really switch off and reap the benefits from spending time in the great outdoors.
With its ancient rock formations and rising mountains, the Grampians is among Victoria’s most loved destinations for adventure.
HIGHLIGHTS
We’ve pieced together an overnight hike, following the highlands and what’s said to be some of the most spectacular views in the park. This brilliant diversity of landscape works in concert with the fauna and flora to make this trip very special.
The mountains are an amazing backdrop for our camp at Barigar, where you’ll have the chance to experience an ‘in hike’ camp location, sharing with koalas and abundant birdlife that make this place their home.

You will begin your adventure at Gar Trailhead on Roses Gap Road for a briefing, gear organising and pre departure checks at 8.30am. From there, it’s a short shuttle bus ride to take the group to the north to the start of the trail at Mt Zero Picnic Area. Along your journey on day one, you will see picturesque views of the Stapylton Amphitheater and Taipan Wall after making the climb on the uphill section over Flat Rock. The trail then descends into the Stapylton Amphitheater and climbs steadily and alongside towering cliff faces to the top of Mt Stapylton.
You will be able to sit in awe (with a hot cuppa) and take a rest at the top of these stunning mountains. If you keep your eyes peeled you will be able to spot reptiles skittering across the path. You may also hear the song of the Kookaburra or be able to sneak a peek at the elusive echidna.
After a stop and lunch at the top of Mt Stapylton the trail continues along the range and down to Golton Creek. From Golton Creek the trail ascends back up onto the range and down into the Barigar Hike in Campsite which is nestled in the valley alongside Barigar Falls. Our home for the night!
We’ll set up camp and enjoy afternoon tea and dinner.
This morning we get up early to savour the views and atmosphere of the morning light over the mountains. You will be treated to a hot cuppa and breakfast with a relaxing morning at camp. There is no rush today, as a shorter 3.9km hike will allow the group plenty of time to pack up camp and ease into the days hiking.
After we pack up camp, the hike descends past Barigar Falls and along the base of the Rock Wall. As the Rock Wall peters out the trail climb over the ridge into Roses Gap with views of the Mt Difficult Range and Briggs Bluff finishing back at the Gar Trailhead.
We’ll finish up just after lunch before departing ways at Gar Trailhead where we left our cars. Finish time between 1.30-2.30pm.
Some overnight bushwalking experience recommended. You should be in good physical condition; fit enough to hike 12 kilometres on day 1 and 4 kilometres on day 2, all with a pack weighing 14-16 kilograms. We recommend you have some bush walking experience and in good health.
