ABOUT THE HIKE

The One Tree Hill Trail starts at Hall Village and takes you along part of the Centenary Trail to One Tree Hill Summit Lookout. This steady climb is not too steep and has sturdy steps along the way. As you reach the summit, there are impressive views looking back towards Canberra. A lot of the walk is exposed as it runs through grazing land, so it's important to bring your hat.

WHAT TO BRING

To make the most of this experience, it's important to come prepared. Here is a list of what to bring:

  • Day pack (large enough to carry 2L water, rain jacket, personal belongings)
  • Rain jacket
  • Hat & sunscreen
  • 1.5 L water
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Sunglasses and hat
  • Camera or phone for photos
  • Personal medication
  • Snack/bite to eat at the top of the hill

GETTING THERE

From Hall Village, head north up Victoria Street and then turn right onto Hoskins Street. The trailhead is at the end of the road where it turns to become Hall Street. Our guide Tracy will be waiting for you at the start of the trail. Click here to view location.

ABOUT THE TRAIL

The One Tree Hill Trail is where it's at. It's one of Canberra's most popular trails and for good reason - the views are absolutely spectacular. Plus, it's part of the longest trail in the city, the 145 km Canberra Centenary Trail.

This trail is seriously well-maintained, so you can strut your stuff on a beautifully groomed surface. The trailhead is in the old rural town of Hall, which is now part of the ACT due to city expansion. The trail ascends almost all the way from start to the summit, but it's a steady incline so you can totally handle it.

You'll encounter a few metal mesh sections where water can be an issue, but don't worry - they won't rain on your parade.

At the 4 km mark, you'll hit a spur that leads up to the summit. It's a bit steep, but it's totally worth it for the amazing views. And speaking of views, the summit has a great seating area with interpretive signage, so you can soak it all in before heading back down.

This trail has it all - rural views, urban views, and bush views. And the best part? The panoramic views even before you reach the summit. The vegetation is different from the trails on the southern side of town, so it's like you're on a whole new adventure. So grab your girlfriends, pack a picnic, and let's hit the One Tree Hill Trail!
