Gear requirements: If you require rental equipment for your trip, such as clothing, inflatable sleeping mats, or sleeping bags, we recommend contacting Wilderness Sports in Jindabyne. They offer a wide range of gear for hire and it can be picked up at their store before the start of your tour. Please make arrangements in advance to ensure availability. Check out their website here

Vechicles: When it comes to transportation, we recommend using a 4WD vehicle to reach the starting point of the trail at Guthega. If the road conditions are snowy, it may be necessary to have chains on your tires for added safety. It's worth noting that even if you don't own a 4WD or don't feel comfortable driving in snowy conditions, many rental companies offer 4WD vehicles or vehicles with snow chains. It is not a requirement to have a 4WD for this trip, however it really does depend on snow conditions. Many trips we can drive 2WD to the start location. It’s often the case the group shares the drive from Jindabyneto Guthega if a few in the group have a 4WD vehicle.

Welcome to the wild: This isn't a cozy bed and breakfast tour, but a journey to the heart of the remote wilderness. It’s going to be amazing. Mother Nature may throw some curveballs our way, but that's all part of the fun. Our camping spot and itinerary may shift due to weather and other factors, so hold on tight, it's going to be a bumpy (and awesome) ride!

Important weather advisory: The itinerary is an outline only, and Women Want Adventure holds the power to make necessary changes for the sake of everyone's safety. This can be due to unexpected weather, the group's fitness level, and various other factors. Stay flexible, ladies!

So, what are you waiting for? Pack your woolies, and your adventurous spirit, and join us for the ultimate women's snowshoeing experience.

* All prices are per person and listed in Australian Dollars (AUD). All prices shown are GST inclusive where applicable.

Itinerary

This morning, we will meet up at the Jindabyne Bowling Club at 8.30 am to embark on a scenic drive together to Thredbo Resort. Be sure to bring all your gear, as your guide will allocate group gear and conduct a gear check to ensure you're fully prepared for the journey ahead. Following the gear check, your guide will go over the trip schedule, weather forecast, and answer any questions you may have.

If you're interested in reducing your carbon footprint (and saving some gas money), we encourage you to consider carpooling with our group. It's an optional choice, but one that we highly recommend for a more eco-friendly and fun-filled road trip!

Thredbo, we have arrived! Time to pack up and gear up for lift-off! While your guide is grabbing the lift passes, feel free to fuel up! Grab a scrumptious snack at Avalanche Cafe or a hot cup of joe if you missed the most important meal of the day. Nothing beats the combination of breathtaking views and caffeine.

We then step off the lift, strap on snowshoes, and brace yourselves for adventure in the white wonderland of the Kosciuszko Range. But first, listen closely as your guide Katelyn gives you the rundown on snow safety. Then, it's time to trek out into the wild, ladies! Welcome to your wintery wilderness excursion!

Onward and upward! Your 5-6 km trek mostly uphill takes you to the Seaman's Hut where you'll set up camp for the next two nights. Your guide will give you a tour of the hut and facilities, showing you the ins and outs of setting up camp, optimised for the weather forecast. Get ready to get your muscles moving and help dig some snow trenches. Together, we'll build a sturdy base camp fit for a king or queen of the mountains!

After camp is all set, pack your daypack with warm clothes and essentials for a stunning Mount Kosciuszko sunset summit walk. As the sun sets and the stars come out, make your way back to camp for a well-deserved hot meal and a cozy night's sleep.

  • Camping: Double tents at Seaman's Hut
  • Snowshoe Trek Length: 6-12 km
  • Food: Snacks, midday meal, evening feast

Wake up and get ready to defrost those frosty fingers with a steaming hot beverage! Your trusty guide will be dishing up some breakfast and discussing the best options for your backcountry adventure. Will you trek to Club Lake and soak in the alpine views? Hike to the highest peak of Mount Townsend? Or conquer Mount Lee on the Main Range? With a seasoned guide leading the way and keeping an eye on the weather, you'll enjoy a day filled with breathtaking sights and safe adventures. After a long day on the snow, warm up with hot miso soups, teas, and a delicious meal.

And let's not forget, a sweet dessert is key to a good night's rest!

  • Snowshoe your way through 12-20 km
  • Enjoy B, L, D meals with hot drinks and snacks

Wake up and embrace the new day! Prepare yourself to witness the breathtaking beauty of the sunrise on our final morning as we ascend to the summit of Etheridge Ridge. With a comforting cup of coffee in prior or up the top of the climb, you'll feel energised and fully prepared to conquer the day (and the decent) ahead.

After one last delicious breakfast at camp, it's time to pack up and head back to Thredbo Resort's summit. But wait, there's more! If you're feeling extra adventurous, why not drop your pack and tackle the Rams Head North peak for a stunning southern view of the Main Range?

As we say farewell to Seaman's Hut and our snowy adventure, we'll make our way back down the Kosciuszko chairlift and return all gear to the Jindabyne Bowling Club. By evening, you'll be ready for a good night's rest in Jindabyne. Don't forget to book your accommodation, you'll want to be well rested for the memories you'll make on this trip.

Grading

Grading: Challenging

In this adventure, you will hike in the snow for up to 6-7 hours a day (possibly more depending on the weather). A good level of fitness is required, as well as excellent health.

Throughout the 3 days, you will carry a full hiking pack that weighs approximately 14-18kg depending on the food we consume. The middle day is spent hiking with only a daypack. Be prepared for variable weather conditions, such as high winds, snowfall, and rain. In adverse weather conditions, you should be comfortable. Snow conditions can make walking harder and slower, making our trip grading more challenging. In order to undertake this trip, it is highly recommended that you have experience hiking and camping overnight. Experience with snowshoeing is also highly suggested. We recommend one hour of aerobic exercise four to five times a week, incorporating hill and stair walking while carrying a pack. A day bushwalk in variable weather conditions is the best preparation for snowshoeing.

Before you lace up your snowshoes, make sure you're in tip-top shape and have some snow camping experience under your belt (or have attended one of our Women Want Adventure Snowshoe Camps). We'll be trekking all our gear out to Seaman's Hut to set up a self-sufficient base camp, then exploring the alpine region with just day packs.

FAQ

Of course! Most women attend our trips on their own. That's what our community is all about - connecting with other rad ladies who will make you feel welcome, comfortable, and excited to explore new things. Plus, we all love Anzac biscuits, so you're in good company.

This adventure is not for the faint of heart! If you have overnight hiking experience, then strap on your snowshoes and get ready for a wild ride through the winter wilderness. With expert guidance and top-notch gear, you'll be well-equipped to conquer the snow-covered terrain and have a blast doing it. But don't be fooled, snowshoeing can be a bit more challenging than a regular hike. So, pace yourself and soak in the stunning views as you trek through the great outdoors.

No worries! A lot of our attendees don't own a 4WD. We usually carpool if someone in the group has a bigger or better car that can handle the drive from Jindabyne to Guthega Power Station. And if the snow conditions are tricky, we'll need to put on snow chains (which aren't included in the trip price). But don't stress - we'll make it work.

We're total snack enthusiasts, too. Bring all the snacks you want - we'll make sure there's enough to go around.

This trip is usually for ladies who have overnight hiking experience and have their own packs. But if you don't have one, no worries! Check out Wilderness Sports Store in Jindabyne for gear rentals. We also have a limited amount of overnight packs to rent out, so feel free to reach out to us here and ask. We'll do our best to help you.

We'll have water purifying tablets on hand, so all you need to do is fill up your water bottle at one of the beautiful streams near our base camp. Plus, snow melts into water, so it's a win-win!

We always do our best to accommodate everyone's dietary needs. We can cater to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. But we don't cater to FODMAP diets. It can get a bit tricky to cook different meals for everyone in the snow, but please reach out to us and we'll do our best to make it work for you.

Absolutely! Any bushwalking or overnight experience is helpful, but it's not a requirement. As long as you're feeling fit, healthy, and mentally prepared for a snow adventure, you'll do great. Check out our grading description for more info. If you want to jump on another overnight trip prior, check out our other trips here

My Time on the Women's Snowshoeing Trip

I had the best time on the women's snowshoeing trip! I was a little nervous at first, but the guides were great and the other women in the group made me feel so welcome. I learned a lot about the sport and how to use snowshoes as a fashion statement... and I have some unforgettable memories with my new friends who I will now call my "snow sisters"

Falling, laughing and making friends: My Snowshoeing Adventure

I never really thought about camping in the snow. I’ve done a an over night hike with WWA and thought I’d try it. The scenery was breathtaking and the camaraderie of the group made it even more special. I highly recommend this trip to any woman looking for an adventure and a chance to bond over frostbite and numb toes. Worth it!

My Two Left Feet had a blast on the Women's Snowshoeing Trip!

I had a blast on the women's snowshoeing trip! Not only did I learn how to walk in circles and fall over gracefully, but I also made some lifelong friends who I can now blame for my bruises. The guides were hilarious and made the experience even more entertaining.
